Summer Preview

Lately I've taken great pleasure in pausing for a moment to stand outside between the raptors' mews and office door, allowing the sun's warm light to drown out the touch of cool air around me. Despite the chilly weather, we'll soon launch into summer!

As this busy season approaches us at the Museum, volunteer engagement will increase along with the temperature. For example, current volunteers already have a plan for continued development of the pressed plant and lichen collection, as well as ongoing recordkeeping in our expansive specimens database.

There are still opportunities for new or returning volunteers to work directly with collections too - from cleaning taxidermy mounts to assisting with the development of displays.

Lastly, I'm excited to engage others in a statewide community science project, where adults and families alike can work together with the Museum on simple monitoring of plants, bees, and butterflies at our local properties. Learn about this project below, or reach out to us so that we can help you pair your skills and interests with a volunteer opportunity this summer!
